Once you get to Mexico, it is easy to travel all over. Typically, traveling around Mexico can be via air or land. Although less popular, you can also travel around Mexico by sea.

The increasing number of domestic air carriers has resulted in cheaper fares for domestic flights in Mexico. As opposed to most countries, Mexico has two major carriers: Mexicana and AeroMexico. There are other airlines in Mexico such as Aviacsa and Azteca. These airlines are mainly based at Mexico City’s Benito Juarez International Airport. Other airlines are based elsewhere. These include Volaris and Interjet, which are both based in Toluca; and Avolar, which is based in Tijuana. Take note that some airlines only travel to specific locations.

You can also travel around Mexico by bus. If you’re in a hurry, make sure that you ride on the express bus, also known as directo. There are several kinds of buses in Mexico. Chicken buses usually serve rural areas and are cheap. Collectivos are mini-buses, and are usually found in cities. Also known as peseros, they follow a specific route but can stop anywhere along the route. Camions usually offer long-distance travel, and have reclining seats and a television. There are also luxury buses that have few seats. These buses travel non-stop until you reach your destination, and some even offer complementary beer.

You can also get around Mexico by car. You can either bring your car or rent a car there. You can get maps to guide you at local stores all over the country. If you plan on driving in Mexico, don’t forget to bring your driver’s license. Make sure that the car you’re driving has Mexican car insurance. Otherwise, if you get into an accident, you might not be allowed to leave the country. You can also travel by taxi. Make negotiations prior to riding the cab; one peso per every mile is the normal rate.
