Mexican Cuisine

Mexican food
Another unique aspect of Mexico is their food. Mexican cuisine is generally full of flavor, uses a mixture of spices, and is presented in an attractively colorful manner. Mexican cuisine is widespread, extending to various parts of the United States and the rest of the world.
Before the Spanish arrived, Mexico was already using spices, specifically chili pepper, in preparing their dishes. Some Mexican dishes also include cocoa to give the food a unique taste. These ingredients not only bring flavor to the food, but also aid aesthetically by making the food more colorful.
Most of the dishes during the pre-Hispanic period were corn dishes. Up to now, corn is still a staple ingredient in Mexican food. Communities living by the sea also use fish in their food.
The Spanish brought in other ingredients, including pork, beef, chicken and rice. The mixture of the two cultures created a variety of Mexican dishes that we now know.

In certain areas of Mexico, other cultures, such as the French and the Caribbean people, also exerted their influence on food.
Mexican cuisine varies depending on where you are. Northern Mexico typically makes sumptuous beef dishes; meanwhile, southern Mexico is known for using chicken and spicy vegetables.
Some common elements of Mexican cuisine include tacos, nachos, burritos and tortilla. Other popular examples include quesadillas, flautas, picadillo and chimichangas. Mexicans also enjoy using flavorful sauces in their meals, which are often difficult to make. Examples include mole, which consists of over 30 ingredients, and salsa.
Mexico is also known for its tasty street food. Examples of this include churros, jarritos and chalupas.
Although not common, there are also certain areas in Mexico serving a variety of exotic Mexican food. This cuisine was created by the ancient civilizations of the Aztecs and the Mayas, and included ingredients such as deer, iguanas and snakes.
Although copied by other countries, true Mexican food still has a distinct taste. Try it!
